Community Moderation
When you enable the Community area, residents can post content that other residents see. The moderation queue is where you review anything neighbors have reported and decide what to do.
This guide is for Owners and Managers. Residents flag content with a Report button throughout the Community area.
How moderation works
PorchQ uses post-moderation: resident content goes live immediately, the community flags anything inappropriate, and you review reports. To stop problems from staying visible while you're away, content reported by several different residents is automatically hidden until you review it.
This applies across the Community area — feed posts, comments, recommendations, giveaways, lost & found, classifieds, and (when reported) private resident conversations.
The moderation queue
Go to Community → Community Moderation in your board portal. You'll see every open report, each showing:
- The reason the resident chose (spam, harassment, inappropriate, scam, or other) and any details
- Who reported it and how many reports the item has
- A preview of the reported content and its current status
Resolving a report
For each report, choose an action:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Hide | Hides the content from residents, pending. Use when something is likely inappropriate but you may revisit it. |
| Remove | Takes the content down for good. |
| Dismiss | Closes the report with no change — the content stays visible. Use when a report isn't warranted. |
| Restore | Brings back content that was hidden (including auto-hidden items) and clears the report. |
Resolving one report on a piece of content resolves the others on the same item, so you don't review the same thing repeatedly.
Reported private messages
Resident-to-resident messages are private from staff by default. If a participant reports a conversation, it appears in your queue so you can review it for harassment or abuse. Conversations that haven't been reported remain private.
Suspending a resident
For repeat problems, you can suspend a resident's Community Profile. A suspended resident can no longer post or comment in the community, while the rest of their resident portal keeps working normally.
Auto-hiding catches the worst cases, but it's not a substitute for a person. Make a habit of skimming the moderation queue — a quick weekly review keeps your community area healthy and shows residents it's well cared for.
